Ofrenda de Papel

The Agencia Dorada travel bureau has been shuttered since Señor Vidal passed three years ago. Tonight — Día de los Muertos — his daughter Lucía has unlocked it for one hour so his spirit can find its way home. The ofrenda on the counter is nearly ready, but the photograph of Vidal — his face, his proof of life — was torn into four pieces by a jealous rival decades ago. The fragments were scattered through the bureau's own drawers and files. Without the whole photograph, the path home stays dark.
